Sydney Opera House Tile Replacement, Bennelong Point NSW
Designer & Senior Drafter/Engineer
Replacement of sail shell edge tiles:
Design of custom-made mounting bracket for snorkel attachment to top of the Opera House.
Extremely difficult access to edge tiles required a snorkel lift boom to be able to reach extremities of the Opera House sails. Constructability issues drove the design of a specialized bracket to attach to the base of the snorkel lift which had been removed from its wheelbase. Site measurements and fabrication of templates and match existing holes in the precast concrete sails of the Opera House to ensure a perfect fit of the bracket which was placed using a water crane. This bracket had to allow for the slope of the Opera House sails and fit perfectly first time.
